Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 13, 2026
The LGBT Family Law Service ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit lgbtfamilylawservice.com (the "Site") or call our help line, how we use and share that information, and the choices and rights you have. By using the Site or calling our help line, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.
The LGBT Family Law Service is a referral and information service, not a law firm. See our Disclaimer for the full statement on that distinction.
1. Information we collect
We collect information that you provide to us directly, information collected automatically when you use the Site, and information from third-party sources.
Information you provide directly
- Calls to our help line. When you call (855) 218-9853, we collect the information you choose to share with us, which typically includes your name, contact details, location (state or city), and a summary of the legal matter you want help with. Calls may be recorded for quality assurance and training; if so, you will be informed at the start of the call.
- Forms. If you fill out a contact, request-a-callback, or intake form on the Site, we collect what you enter — usually name, phone, email, location, and a description of your matter.
- Email and other communications. If you email us or otherwise communicate with us, we keep the content of those messages and our responses.
Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data. IP address, approximate location (derived from IP), browser type and version, operating system, the pages you view, links you click, the page that referred you, dates and times of access, and similar log information.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See Section 4.
Information from third-party sources
We may receive information about you from advertising networks, analytics providers, or attorneys in our referral network (for example, if an attorney confirms that they spoke with you or that a referral was completed).
2. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate the help line and connect you with an appropriate LGBTQ family law attorney in our network;
- Respond to your questions and follow up about your matter;
- Improve the Site, the help line, and the quality of attorney matches;
- Send you transactional messages (for example, a confirmation that we received your message);
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security risks, and technical issues;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
3. How we share information
We share information only as described here. We do not sell your personal information.
- Referred attorneys. When we refer you to an LGBTQ family law attorney, we share what is needed to make that referral — typically your name, contact details, location, and a brief description of your matter. Once you communicate with the attorney directly, you become that attorney's prospective client, subject to the attorney's own privacy practices and ethical obligations.
- Service providers. Vendors that help us operate the Site and the help line — hosting, telephony, email, analytics, security — process information on our behalf under written agreements that restrict their use of it.
- Legal compliance and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, court order, or subpoena; to enforce our Terms; to protect the rights, property, or safety of users, the public, or our service; or in connection with a legal investigation.
- Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to standard confidentiality protections.
- With your consent. We may share information for other purposes if you direct us to do so.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
The Site uses cookies and similar technologies (such as pixels and local storage) to remember your preferences, understand how the Site is used, and measure the performance of marketing efforts. You can control cookies through your browser settings — most browsers let you refuse new cookies, delete existing ones, or be alerted before a cookie is set. Disabling cookies may make parts of the Site work less well.
5. Analytics
We use analytics services (such as Google Analytics) to understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it. These services may use cookies and similar technologies to collect information about your use of the Site over time and across other sites. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on.
6. Data retention
We retain information for as long as we need it to provide the help line and the Site, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When we no longer need information, we delete or de-identify it.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your California privacy rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act ("CCPA"), gives you the following rights regarding your "personal information":
- Right to know what categories of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, the business or commercial purpose for collecting it, the categories of third parties we share it with, and the specific pieces of personal information we have collected.
- Right to delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information.
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.
Categories of personal information we collect include identifiers (name, email, phone, IP address), internet/network activity (browsing and Site usage), geolocation data (approximate, derived from IP), commercial information (records of requests for referrals), and inferences drawn from the above.
Categories of sources include you, your device, your browser, our service providers, and analytics providers.
Business purposes for which we collect personal information are described in Section 2.
Categories of third parties with whom we share personal information are described in Section 3.
To submit a privacy request, use our contact form or call our 24/7 toll-free line at (855) 218-9853. We may need to verify your identity before responding. You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf, subject to verification.
9. Other U.S. state privacy rights
Residents of other U.S. states with comprehensive consumer privacy laws — including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and others — may have similar rights to access, correct, delete, or limit processing of their personal information. To exercise any such right, use our contact form or call (855) 218-9853.
10. Children's privacy (COPPA)
The Site and help line are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us through our contact form or by calling (855) 218-9853.
11. Do Not Track and global privacy signals
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting or send a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. We honor recognized opt-out preference signals where required by applicable law (including the GPC signal from California users) and otherwise treat browser signals consistent with industry practice.
12. Third-party services and links
The Site may link to third-party websites, services, or resources (for example, Lambda Legal or the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. Review the privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.
13. International visitors
The Site and help line are operated from the United States and are intended for users in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States.
14. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. If we make material changes, we will provide additional notice (for example, by posting a notice on the Site). Your continued use of the Site or the help line after a change becomes effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
